In this personal musical version of Basile's work Antonio Nicola Bruno has chosen a simple and complex approach at the same time: the fairy tales and chronicles of peasants, peasant princes and children, women of all ages and cultures I relive in today's life by bringing back to Naples the rhythm of the past.

L'evento

Let's meet in the gardens of Palazzo Filangieri for an event full of suggestions that will make us cross a bridge between ancient traditions e il tempo presente, trasformando ciò che osserviamo tutti i giorni in qualcosa di mitico e fiabesco.

The concert rehearsal of "Lì canti de li cunti" by Antonio Nicola Bruno is freely inspired by "Lo cunto de li cunti overo lo trattenemiento de peccerille", a collection of 50 fairy tales in the Neapolitan language written by Giambattista Basile, published between 1634 and 1636 in Naples. The work, also known as Pentamerone (five days), consists of 50 fairy tales, including the most famous and The Cat Cinderella, a well-known version of the famous fairy tale Cinderella, a folk tale handed down since ancient times in hundreds of versions from different continents.

The folktale itself has been reprized in several variations, by Charles Perrault and in the 19th century by the Brothers Grimm.
The homonymous work by Roberto De Simone is also taken from the short story by Basile.
Basile's Naples is plebeian, miserable, noisy, filthy, populated by taverns, brothels, gambling dens, malefeminis. And the characters of the fifty stories are gathered with the aim of making the reader laugh.
The first film vaguely inspired by "Lo cunto de li cunti" is "Once upon a time" by director Francesco Rosi, made in 1967, which stars Sophia Loren, Omar Sharif, Georges Wilson, Dolores del Río, Marina Malfatti and Leslie French.
Transposition of the Pentamerone is, in 2015, also "The tale of tales" (Tale of Tales), an episodic English-language film directed by Matteo Garrone, based on the three fairy tales The fairy deer, The flea, The old skinned animated Italian Gatta Cenerentola (2017) is an adaptation of the homonymous fairy tale contained in Lo cunto de li cunti.

Antonio Nicola Bruno, today, in this musical version, has chosen a stylistic and thematic approach that is simple and complex at the same time, as well as courageous and countertrend: the narration passes directly to today's heroes, more fragile and resilient, but still imaginative and capable of solving enigmas and practical problems: and so the fairy tales and chronicles of peasants, peasant princes and children, women of all ages and cultures relive in today's life, bringing the rhythm of the past back to Naples.
Together with Bruno himself, Tony Panico Carlo Ostuni and the extraordinary participation of Tony Cercola will be on stage.
